What happens if I receive my EAD card for post-completion OPT, but do not graduate by the OPT start date?
Once the EAD has been issued, it cannot be cancelled! The student should contact the I-Center immediately for I-20 extension and guidance. The I-Center will need to extend the student’s program end date to the appropriate date. The student may work part time while enrolled in courses to complete the requirements for his or her program and full time during breaks and vacations. After successful completion of all the program requirements, the student may work full time. PhD students who have completed their course work and are in TGR status may work full time once the I-20 has been extended. Failure to extend the I-20 will cause you to fall out of F-1 legal status.
