What happens if i never shut my mac laptop off and instead put it to sleep?
The type of battery used in laptops is destroyed over time by heat. I used to wonder why the batteries of my many laptops over the years would become useless in about a year’s time. Heat is the reason. You ever notice how insanely hot laptops become? Use AC whenever possible with the battery removed to preserve the life of your battery. I’m not sure how computer-life-threatening it is to keep a laptop in sleep mode. But in my case of doing the same thing screwed up the motherboard. I went to ‘wake up’ my computer one day and it wasn’t able to start up fully/properly. I don’t know if it was from keeping it on all the time or it wasn’t a good motherboard so it didn’t live long. Just something you might want to be wary of. It is an hp, not a mac, but I doubt that makes much, if any, difference.
It’s not bad… The difference is, “sleep” keeps the current state so you can quickly come back to it, and does require power. Shutting it down just makes you boot up from cold metal, and starts you with a fresh session. Putting it to sleep doesn’t harm anything, although it’s good to do a full reboot from time to time so the session doesn’t start having um…”microsoft issues”.
