After the download is finished, it will start seeding. Seeding helps others who want to download the same file. So if you seed for a day, it will help others download the file faster. It may sound like a stupid thing for you to do but people seed the torrents that you download, so you should seed for others. For example, a 700mb movie could take a day for you to download, but by seeding, it could help others download it in a couple hours. Nothing happens if you don’t seed torrents and it doesn’t affect the file at all, it just helps others who are trying to download the same torrent.
