Hopefully you have a signed walk through form from the manager when she saw the apartment and gave you that verbal estimate. If you don’t have a signed and dated walk through form then you may have difficulty getting a full return of your security deposit. It sounds like there was damage to the apartment and if that is the case then you know about it and can just take better care of the next apartment. If she is just trying to scam you then look up the landlord tenant act for your state and also refer to your lease. Most states require that landlords send a certified letter within a certain time period from two weeks to thirty days and specify in that letter the damages and the amount that is being withheld from the security deposit. If it isn’t done in that way then you can go to small claims court. Be very prepared because the judge may know less about the law then you do.
