You get poor, like all airplane owners 🙂 Anyway, you will not be able to obtain a repairman certificate, since you didn’t build the airplane. The airplane can be inspected and maintained by an A&P… an Inspection Authorization is not required. Also, if the original owner retains his or her Repairman Certificate, they can continue working on your plane…that is, if you can talk them into it. You, as the owner, are allowed to perform all the maintenance and repair of the aircraft. Whoever performs the next condition inspection (the builder or an A&P) will essentially sign-off your work at that time. In other words, the A&P’s annual inspection not only covers the inspection of the airplane, but it counts as the yearly signoff for work done by the owner in the past year.
