What happens if I am overpaid Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit?
If you have been paid too much benefit, the council will look at the circumstances and decide if it is recoverable and, if so, from whom. If your Housing Benefit is paid to your landlord on your behalf, the council may decided to recover the overpaid benefit from your landlord. Alternatively, the council may decide that you are responsible for repayment.
