What happens if coeliacs keep eating gluten?
Basically, due to the inflammation, your gut will stop working properly which will result in poor absorption of food, which can cause deficiencies of vitamins, iron, and other nutrients. This can then cause anaemia and other problems. You will also likely experience weight loss, abdominal pains and tiredness etc as a result of this. Coeliac disease is caused by a reaction of the gut to gluten. The reaction to gluten causes inflammation in the lining of the gut. This stops the gut from functioning properly and malabsorbtion of food. Treatment is for life, being that you should not eat any foods that contain gluten for the rest of your life.
