The proposition would effectively ban same-sex marriage. If the vote is successful, would the marriages that have already been granted remain valid? Attorney General Jerry Brown says that existing gay marriages would most likely remain legal. “I believe that marriages that have been entered into subsequent to the [May 15] Supreme Court opinion will be recognized by the California Supreme Court,” Brown told The Chronicle.
