What happens if an IME is requested?
The Agency will schedule an interview for the claimant to be examined by a doctor on our list of IME physicians. The claimant is notified of the appointment time and is asked to contact the State Retirement Agency to confirm that attendance. The Agency will pay the cost of the examination. • Once the Medical Board has reviewed the claim information, what is the next step? The Medical Board may make one of three recommendations: • The Medical Board may recommend approval of the claim; • The Medical Board may recommend denial of the claim; or • The Medical Board may approve ordinary disability retirement but deny the claim for Accidental or Special Disability. • When disability claims are recommended for approval, what is the next step?
