What happens if an employee under notice of redundancy wants to leave earlier than the dismissal date?

0

Once an employee has received written notice of redundancy in a dismissal letter (not an ‘at risk’ letter), they can leave early if they give ‘counter notice’ to the employer. The period of counter notice must be the same as the notice period specified in the contract of employment, unless the Council agrees to accept shorter notice. Their redundancy payment will not be affected, but they will only receive salary up to the actual date of leaving. However, if the reason for leaving is to take up another job in local government (or with an associated employer) they will not be entitled to the redundancy payment.
