What happens if a student has a “crisis” when the Counseling Center is closed?

A Counseling Center staff member is available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. When a student calls the Center during off-hours, they are given the cell phone number of the on-call clinician (215) 416-3337. The Counseling Center and the Residential Living Office have developed a protocol for handling psychological emergencies for residential students. In case of a psychological emergency, residential students should immediately contact their RA or the AD/RD on duty. The protocol is activated once a staff member becomes aware of the problem. Students living off campus should call “911” or Drexel Security at (215) 895-2222 for assistance. The ER/Psychiatric Evaluation Center (PEEC) at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (34th and Spruce Sts.), is our local resource we utilize if hospitalization becomes necessary.
