Failure to register is a third degree crime under N.J.S.A. 2C:7-2. Third degree crimes are punishable with a sentence of up to 5 years in State prison. It is also a fourth degree crime under N.J.S.A. 2C: 7-2e for a registrant to knowingly provide false information concerning his place of residence or to fail to verify his address with the appropriate law enforcement agency. Fourth degree crimes are punishable by a sentence of up to 18 months in State Prison.
