What happens if a lower confidence call is seen?
In many cases a lower confidence call is not an issue. For example, a confidence of 95% is still considered very good. A lower confidence call is mainly a concern if the confidence is below 85% and the chromosome involved is associated with a disorder like Down syndrome for Trisomy 21. In these cases if your IVF center is able to do Day 5 biopsy, one option would be to re-biopsy the embryo(s) with the low confidence call(s) on day 5 and send cells to our lab for repeat testing. This would allow us to re-evaluate all chromosome pairs. Day 5 testing would require freezing the re-biopsied embryo for transfer in a future cycle.
