What happens if a dog is seized?
Courts no longer have to order that the dogs be destroyed and have discretion to allow the dog to be returned to the owner. This decision is reached after the dogs behaviour has been thoroughly assessed, if the dog passes this assessment it is then added to a list of exempt dogs. In this case a set of conditions must be met: the dog must be neutered, micro-chipped, insured, muzzled, etc. Where a dog has attacked a person or behaved in a dangerous way, the Courts are more likely to order the destruction of the dog.
