Licensed providers and centers can bill for absent days if it is the providers policy to charge absent days for all families whether or not the family is receiving child care assistance or if the family is private pay. If the provider does not charge private pay parents for absent days, then the provider cannot bill child care assistance for any absent days. Providers must track absent days and report absent days on claim forms. Child care assistance can pay up to 25 absent days per year per child. Once child care assistance has paid for 25 absent days, charges for absent days will become the parent’s responsibility. If a child is absent more then ten consecutive days, child care assistance cannot pay for care beyond ten consecutive days of absence unless there is a medical issue. If there is a medical reason the child was absent for longer than ten days, the parent needs to contact the child care case manager.
