What happens during the first trimester of pregnancy?
During the first trimester of pregnancy, many changes take place in a pregnant woman’s body, often caused by surges or pregnancy hormones such as estrogen and progesterone. These hormonal surges are generally considered responsible for a variety of pregnancy symptoms and early discomforts a woman may feel. This period also brings many changes and rapid growth in the developing baby. Many pregnant women don’t know the exact day that they ovulated and conceived. Due to this, the first trimester of pregnancy, which is the first 12 weeks, is usually counted as starting on the day of a woman’s last menstrual period. This may actually be two or more weeks before the egg was fertilized. In general, there are no specific pregnancy-related changes taking place in the body during that pre-fertilization time.
