What happens during a Juvenile Fire setting interview?
1. The child and their family are interviewed (usually in the home). 2. The juvenile fire specialist makes an evaluation of the child. 3. A brief fire safety class is presented to the child and family. 4. The child may be given fire safety study guides with homework. 5. The child is referred to a counselor for additional help if needed. 6. A follow-up session with the Juvenile Fire Specialist is conducted if needed. Who are these children involved in firesetting? Young males between the ages of 5 and 9 are the most common but we have interviewed children (both male and female) up to the age of 18. Why do these children set or play with fire? Some of the many reasons for juvenile firesetting are: 1. Curiosity (the most common) 2. Acting out their anger or frustration 3. Peer pressure 4. Emotional problems 5.
