During a HBO session the patient is placed in a pressurized chamber and breathes 100% oxygen under pressures 1 to 3 times atmospheric pressures for sessions of 60-120 minutes depending upon the condition being treated. The air you are currently breathing contains only 19-21% oxygen. The main benefit to a true HBO session comes from the fact the patient breathes 100% oxygen under a pressure greater than atmospheric. Breathing 100% oxygen at atmospheric pressure is not HBO. The HBO chamber has a built-in intercom allowing the patient and clinic attendant to stay in constant communication. The patient has clear visibility of the surroundings and may be taken out at any time if required. During a session the patient may watch TV or take a nap. The number of treatments and hence cost is dependent upon the condition being treated and the patients overall health when starting the HBO sessions.
