What happens during a counseling session?
During an individual counseling session a counselor meets one on one with a student. During the first meeting, the Counselor gets to know the student and discusses the presenting concern the student wants to share. Counselors do not judge behavior as right or wrong. Counselors do not give advice. Counselors listen to the students concerns and try to clarify the issues they present in an objective way. Strategies and options are then presented to the student as a means to resolving the issue of concern. It is then up to the student to decide what action to take.
