What happens at the first meeting between the student and SJA?
The SJA staff member meets with the student in a one-on-one meeting, and explains the disciplinary process to the student. The SJA staff member informs the student the reason for the report, reviewing the information that has been received from the reporting party. The student is given an opportunity to respond to the concerns and tell the SJA staff member what the student knows about the situation. While the reporting party does not attend this first meeting, after meeting with the student, the SJA staff member informs the reporting party what the student has said, and discusses possible resolutions. The purpose of the first meeting is to see if the student and SJA can reach an agreement regarding what happened and what might be an appropriate way of resolving the matter. Students may choose not to comment on the allegations, but if they do provide information, they are expected to be honest.
