I am a recovering heroin addict. Even though I was 36 and living on my own, my parents went to al-anon. They said that it helped them tremendously. It also helped me believe it or not. It helped me to get some help for my addiction. I am also an alcoholic. You will not have to tell anyone your story. No one can make you do anything. They may ask if you would like to speak. You can politely decline. No Biggie. If you are shy, nervous, emberassed, or whatever, just listen to others and when you hear someone who you can relate to, grab them after the meeting and talk with them. I know what you ,must be going through. You, your husband and the rest of your family deserve more. So take the first step to bettering your lives. Listen to your heart and don’t let your mind talk you out of it. I wish that I could offer you more insight. But the people at Al-Anon can and will. They are very loving people.
