What Happens at a Toastmasters Meeting?
Our Toastmasters meeting begins with a Sergeant-at-Arms welcoming club members to the meeting, and introducing the Chairperson for the meeting. The Chairperson runs the meeting, reviewing the agenda, ensuring all roles have been assigned for the meeting, and introducing those roles as the meeting progresses. Once the agenda is established, a thought or humourous anecdote provides another voluntary opportunity to practice speaking skills. During the first part of the meeting, club members and guests may introduce themselves. The club member who is the Grammarian for the evening presents the Word of the Day, explains its meaning and use, and encourages members and guests to use this word throughout the evening. The meeting then proceeds to a business session or an educational session. The business session is conducted under the rules of parliamentary procedure.
