What happens at a preventive health care check-up?
At a preventive health care check-up, the individual’s doctor will: • Check the person from head to toe • Run health care screening tests to make sure that their overall health is good • Ask about any health concerns or questions you or the individual you support might have about the individual’s health If you attend a doctor’s appointment with an individual you support, you can: • Help the individual understand what the doctor is doing and saying • Remind the individual about questions they wanted to ask their health care provider • Take notes on any recommendations or instructions the doctor gives If the individual is generally healthy, the doctor will want to see them in another year or so. If there are concerns about the person’s health, the doctor will develop a plan to address those concerns and may want to see the individual more frequently.
