What happens after we get to the surgicenter?
On the day of surgery the patient checks in at the admissions area. After filling out the necessary forms, patients are taken to the preoperative changing area, where they will change into a hospital gown. The preoperative anesthetic evaluation will be done the day before through a phone interview, which will also include instructions on medications and eating and drinking before surgery. On the day of surgery the anesthesiologist will review the medical history, perform a thorough physical exam and discuss the anesthetic plan. In working with children, our goal is to put things into terms they understand and to be as reassuring as possible.
