What happens after a paper has been submitted to Turnitin?
Individual papers normally take a few minutes to be processed by Turnitin. An Originality Report is generated for each submitted paper. The report is indicated by an icon, the colour of which denotes to what degree the paper’s content matches text from other sources (the Similarity Index). It is important to remember that the software makes no decisions as to whether a student has plagiarised, it simply highlights sections of text that have been found in other sources. These sources include the world wide web and extensive databases of reference material, as well as content previously submitted by other users.
