What happens after 1,000 rewrites to CD-RW has been reached?
Software such as the UDF file system overcomes the “wearing out” of particular areas on the disc (marginal segments are reassigned to a reserved area on the disc), making the overwrite limitation much less of an issue. As the technology improves, it is expected that media that can be re-written 10,000 or more times will be available.
