What happened to the TV Guide channel on Mediacom?
A. The TV Guide channel was removed from the Family Cable line up in mid-April in La Salle County, as well as the 22 states Mediacom serves, due to changes in technology. Phyllis Peters, communications director for Mediacom, North Central Division, said Mediacom felt the scroll that showed the TV schedule on channel 73 was outdated. “It was time-consuming and a little archaic to wait for those channels,” she said, adding the scroll bar provides one-way communication with limited info. Mediacom also felt the TV Guide content, some of which was infomercials, wasn’t beneficial to its customers. “We don’t think it gives our customers the best value,” she said. Also, Mediacom said most customers use other mediums to obtain the TV schedule, such as Mediacom’s Web site and newspapers. More than half of Mediacom’s customers use digital cable and therefore have access to a more user-friendly TV schedule. “Since there are alternative ways, we felt it was the appropriate decision,” she said.
