What happened to the space jockey and what were the eggs doing in the derelict? Was there a queen on board?
It appears that the space jockey was killed by an alien bursting out of its chest, leaving a large gaping wound there. Certainly, the infection by the facehugger must have been accidental. The fact that there are so many eggs in the cargo hold, and that they are so neatly organized with a preserving mist delimited by a blue plane “that reacts when broken”, suggests that the eggs are being stored for transit on the ship. After being infected by the facehugger, the space jockey must have landed on LV-421 and turned on the accoustical beacon as a warning. The eggs may have been there to be used as a biological weapon by the space jockey’s race against an enemy, or as research samples collected on a foreign world. The eggs seem to have been taken from a nest and deliberately placed in protective chambers so it is highly unlikely that a queen, especially a _live_ queen, was on board.
