What Happened to the Scottsboro Boys?
The Scottsboro boys are a group of nine black teenagers who were falsely accused of raping a white girl in 1931. The defendants had little chance of a fair trial in those times of intense racial tension. However there were many people who came behind their cause to help. Many appeals, retrials, and mistrials resulted in their being the first blacks who were accused of such crimes against a white person, found guilty and not given a death sentence. They all had different experiences in life, but none seemed to go well. The final surviving Scotsboro boy died in 1989 For more information look here: http://www.law.umkc.edu/faculty/projects…
