The RSX implementation group’s PDP-11/74 was located at ZKO, the DEC software development facility in the Spit Brook woods of Nashua, New Hampshire. It had the DECnet name CASTOR. After it was decommissioned at ZKO, it went to CXO (Colorado Springs). The DECnet group recommissioned it as PHEANX, which was the only unused spelling of “phoenix” left on the corporate DECnet network. “CASTOR, after we decommissioned it at ZKO, went out to CXO to Dave Carroll. [….] I have no idea where either it or Dave are at this point.” And nobody else does either. Not CASTOR, nor any of the many other 11/70mP CPUs that were built and eventually absorbed back into the company as single-CPU 11/70s. Source: Brian S.
