What happened to the people running auschwitz after it closed?
Rudolf Hess the ss commander in auschwitz was captured, tried and eventually executed by hanging at the same camp that he was in charge of prior to the liberation in 1947 Others, most notably, Dr. Josef Mengele, did manage to escape and make it to South America where he drowned while swimming as a result of a stroke. Others were captured and tried and met the same fate as Hess but these were two of the most notables.
