What Happened To The Owl Who Wanted To Marry The Eagles Daughter?
An owl fell in love with his own reflection in a moonlit pool. He found himself so handsome that he decided he was fit to marry an eagle’s daughter, and sent his friend, the crow, up to the mountain to ask the eagle for his daughter’s hand – or wing – in marriage. The eagle was amused at the owl’s presumption, and sent him a message that he would meet him at midday, high up in the sky under the sun, to discuss the marriage. The owl set off gallantly, but of course he wasn’t used to the heat and brightness of the sun. He struggled to reach the eagle, who flew up in the air laughing at him, but eventually gave up and returned to his own nest. He consoled himself with the thought that he could never have been happy with a wife who wanted to fly shamelessly around in the midday sun.
