Nathan P. Thobe, 25, sped from police officers on his Kawasaki Ninja after they attempted to stop him for a minor misdemeanor of failing to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of First and Cleveland streets, Minster Police Chief Randy Houseworth said this morning. He said the chase lasted only a few minutes but reached high speeds on the west wide of town before entering in the Minster Industrial Park shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday. A Maria Stein man who died early Sunday when he crashed his motorcycle in Minster while fleeing from police had a blood-alcohol concentration level of twice the legal limit. Police investigators said Nathan P. Thobe, 25, had a blood-alcohol concentration level of 0.17 percent. In Ohio, a 0.08 percent blood-alcohol concentration level is considered intoxicated. Authorities were still investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal motorcycle accident. Sgt. Tom Brookhart of the Wapakoneta post of the Ohio Highway State Patrol said his office is working on determining the speed Thobe was traveling when he crashed. The Minster Police Department is also investigating the 10-minute chase of Thobe. Randy Houseworth, Minster police chief, said a crash reconstructionist was being used to create a tentative plan that will be available Friday.
