What happened to the EnergyStar mark?

The EPA has suspended the EnergyStar program for all programmable thermostats effective December 31, 2009. The reason sited was due to a study that found that a majority of users did not obtain energy savings from programmabe thermostats because they were too difficult to use and maintain. A copy of the suspension letter can be found here. The BAYweb Thermostat does not have the limitations of typical programmable thermostats. The occupancy sensing and web based scheduling features provides maximum savings with little ongoing effort. The EPA/DOE is in the process of creating a new EnergyStar specification for programmable thermostats. A copy of the latest draft of the specification can be found here. The BAYweb Thermostat is currently one of only a couple of products that are close to meeting the draft specification.
