What happened to the electric car?
Do even a little bit of research, and you’ll see nothing happened to it. They are out there, you can build your own. Here’s one (of many) companies that sells conversion kits: http://www.electroauto.com/index.html More info on electric cars here: http://www.eaaev.org/index.html New production models come out all the time. The problems with them are matters of performance, due to the huge weight of the batteries. What’s holding them back, preventing them from being competetive with ICE cars, is the battery technology. And there are plenty of companies working on that problem. There is a huge market out there, just waiting for a breakthrough. If they can double the power-to-weight ratio of batteries, they can build electric cars that will OUTPERFORM gas cars in every way. But the weight has to come down by a lot. IF you don’t mind: 1. Charging overnight. 2. Very slow. 3. Short range. … then an electric car is a good choice. Excellent for local commuting, shopping, etc. But don’t expect
The electric car was the dumbest idea ever! They claim that electricity is “clean energy” and that is a HUGE lie! Well over half of all the electricity produced in this country is made from coal. You take coal, the worst possible energy source that creates acid rain, and make the “clean” electricity from it, doing more damage to the environment than using gasoline in your car could ever do. Then send it over transmission lines with line loses of 10-15% and plug your electric car into the wall to charge a battery that is only 50% efficient. It does not take a genius to understand that is not very smart. You start out with the most damaging agent possible and then get the inefficiencies of not only the power plant, but also the transmission lines, and the battery into the mix. It would be better for the environment if we just partially burned the gasoline in our stock engines. Electricity in cars “appears” to be “clean” energy, but in fact, is anything but “clean”.

With a combination of interviews with former EV car drivers, car sales people, auto engineers and industry and government experts on all sides of the issues, this entertaining and enlightening film unravels the mystery and history of the electric car. The answers to these questions might make your jaw drop and likely leave you steamed, whether your priority is saving money, addressing global warming or even having more choices in the marketplace. Filmmaker Chris Paine leased an EV1 himself and fell in love with the car that GM would not let him buy. While clearly a fan of the EV1 cars, Paine still makes a compelling case and lets all sides speak. Pro-EV1 interviewees include former members of the Reagan and Carter administrations. “Who Killed The Electric Car?” is a real eye-opener about controlling consumer choice, market manipulation, planned obsolescence, politics, consumer shortsightedness and, yes, oil company interests and power. The losers are the consumers and the planet, but i
