What happened to the Biomed undergraduate major?
In Fall of 2002, we made several changes to improve the Biomed program and adapt to recent trends in medical education. As Dean Craig Byus has said, “With recent changes in our Biomed program, UCR is now an even better choice for students who are interested in medicine. We still offer exclusive access to our 24 medical school seats each year to UCR students, and we now offer stronger academic support, a new integrated medical curriculum, and greater accessibility to a broader range of UCR students.” Please note that the UCR/UCLA program is a professional school program and no longer has an undergraduate component. After the changes, our admissions procedures and policies match those at most other medical schools in the country. Students will be eligible to apply once they have completed the undergraduate prerequisite courses listed below (this usually takes a minimum of two years) and have current MCAT scores. Students will apply through AMCAS (http://www.aamc.org/students/amcas/start.
