What happened to Diana and Shirley Blythe?
The following information is from Rilla of Ingleside. Diana Blythe, along with Nan and Rilla, work hard at the Red Cross headquarters when sheets and bandages are needed during World War I. Nan and Di leave to study at Redmond College. After their return, the twins and Faith Meredith continue working at the Red Cross during their vacation, later at a training camp in Kingsport. Di wants to go to Europe as a V.A.D. but Gilbert asks her not to because Anne is already worried about her sons fighting overseas. She and Nan are expected to become teachers at the end of the series. Shirley Blythe enlists in the flying corps during World War I when he reaches the age requirement. As you can imagine, Susan and his parents are uneasy about this. He trains in an aviation camp in Kingsport, Nova Scotia, and maintains letter correspondence with the remaining family members at Ingleside. He is expected to return home in July and enter college along with Jem, Jerry and Carl.
