What happened to DATA in Star Trek The Next Generation?
In Star Trek Nemesis, the latest film, Data was killed. In a selfless act he went to aid Picard on the Reman ship Scimitar in which a massive biological weapon was about to wipe everyone out. Data very conveniently had a transporter thingy built into his arm, he slapped it on Picard who then beamed back to safety. Data then sacrificed himself by destroying the weapon, which in turn destoyed the bad guys ship. BUT In a ridiculous twist earlier in the film the crew found a prototype android in the Data mould. Data downloaded himself into the droid (B4) in the hope the earlier model would stop being so antiquated and be more like him!! So, Data is dead but to avoid all us Trekkies feeling all nihilistic, as you NEVER loose main characters in Trek unless they’re really lame, the writers went for this naff “but he isn’t properly dead” angle by having Data’s brain live on inside B4. ST: TNG……….rip But roll on Star Trek the re-original!!!
