What happened to Blair being Asian?
The recast. To put it simply, the show opted to recast Blair with a white actress (Kassie DePaiva) after the role had been vacated by its creator, Mia Korf (who herself is of White/Asian extraction.) Its my understanding that reason DePaiva was cast was because then-executive producer Linda Gottlieb felt that while Korf was in the role, there hadnt been an excessive emphasis put on Blairs Asian heritage. Since none of her Asian relatives had been introduced, or even identified, I suppose altering this biracial character to being fully white wasnt an extreme 180despite how jarring it still may have seemed. And while many over the years have questioned how kosher that decision was, on a social and/or ethical scale, I think most viewers would agree that (politics aside) DePaiva has made the Blair character her own.
