What Happened To Anyone Who Looked At Medusa?
Medusa was the most powerful of three sisters called the Gorgons. The Gorgons were granddaughters of Gaia, the original Earth goddess. They had snakes for hair and could turn to stone any man or living them who looked at them. Perseus, the son of Zeus by a Greek woman called Danae, was sent to kill Medusa and fetch her head. He managed to do this with the help of the goddess Athene, an enemy of Medusa. With the help of various magical gifts, such as an all-seeing eye and a cap of invisibility, he managed to reach Medusa’s cave, and got close to her by looking only at her reflection in his polished shield. By this means he was able to kill her. On the way home he used her head (which still had the power to turn anyone into stone) to kill a sea monster which had captured the beautiful Andromeda. He rescued Andromeda, and after further adventures took her home and married her.
