What happened to all the warplanes, tanks, etc after WWII?
Most of the U.S. inventory of aircraft and ships wound up being sold for scrap. The mostly prop-driven aircraft of WWII were outmoded anyway because of the development of jet aircraft, although some of the later prop aircraft such as the Navy’s F4U Corsair and USAAF’s P-51 served into the 1950s. Some aircraft were sold to foreign governments and a few to private individuals and companies.
