What happened on Sept. 16th?
Council heard more public comment (overwhelmingly against the proposed sale,) heard additional testimony from city staff and representatives from GPI, then amended the Option to slightly reduce the square footage of the proposed building (while also allowing it to be taller.) Councilwoman Holly Jones then attempted to make a motion delaying the vote, but wasn’t quick enough on the draw. Councilman Joe Dunn moved to vote on the Option, and Councilman Carl Mumpower seconded it, even as Holly Jones was trying to speak. The Option was discussed further, and Council then voted to adopt, with Holly Jones the only No vote. Several members of Council acknowledged what members of the public have been saying, that the process thus far has been flawed, and the public involvement inadequate.
