What Happened In The Newspapers In Kansas City, Kansas In 1950?
In 1950 the newspaper “The Kansas City Star” had published a series of stories relating to Kansas City turning a century (a hundred). The then President of “The Star” was Roy Roberts, and after the stories were published in his newspaper, he received a letter from a very famous and important American. Harry Truman in his letter to Roy Roberts in June 1950 stated a number of events he felt were given far less attention then they deserved. Since the events were those that occurred during the childhood of the President, he felt that the newspaper had done a less than perfect job in reporting them. This was of course his personal opinion. The newspaper also reported that year, a game that was played between Kansas City Blues and Minneapolis. The historical thing about this game was that Whitey Ford pitched and Willie Mays batted.
