What happened at the Council of Jamnia and the Council of Nicea?
At the 1st Council of Nicea the Nicene Creed was formalized, the date of Easter was settled, and the Arian controversy was dealt with. The Arians believed that the Son (Jesus) was lesser than God, while the followers of St. Alexander believe them to be equal, or of the same substance. The council ruled that they were the same, and equal, as is reflected in the Nicene Creed. The 2nd Council of Nicea dealt with Iconoclasm and ruled that images of Jesus, Mary, saints, and so forth are worthy of adoration but not worship.
