WWII had many devastating consequences for Russia. Russia had the highest body count after the smoke cleared. Their country was left in a depression after a long and tedious war. Their were riots over food, people starving to death in the streets, political unrest, and militaristic bands forming. Of course, WWII was the greatest tragedy for Russia in the 20th century. About 30 millions Soviet citizens (Russian, Ukrainian, Belorus etc) were killed. Industrial and transport infrastructure was destroyed, cultural heritage was lost. The war still affects population dynamics in Russia. However, during the first months of the war hundreds of munitions (automobile, aircraft) factories were evacuated from Western industrial regions of the country to Volga, Ural, Siberia and Middle Asia areas. These provinces, being mainly agricultural before the war, promptly became the base of Soviet war and general industry.
