What happend when the africans were on the slave ship?
They were put arm-to-arm in chains on “shelves” of the ship that gave the slaves just enough room to breath. They could not move to go to the bathroom so they lived in their own filth. Every once-in-a-while they were let out and put on the deck so they could stretch and eat. Then they were put back under the deck, but the shelves were not washed, so they went back and lived in their filth again.
