What “green” elements is AAMC incorporating into the design of the new building?
AAMC is taking a number of steps to make its campus more environmentally friendly. AAMC has applied for L.E.E.D. certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and has added “green” components to construction projects. The health system has committed to incorporate these components for an additional $2 million investment, which it believes will be returned in future savings. AAMC’s second patient tower will have a “green” roof that will catch and filter rain water to protect nearby Chesapeake Bay tributaries. AAMC has made changes and adaptations to the HVAC system plans in its new buildings, and has adjusted the construction outlines for both lighting and plumbing fixtures to make them more environmentally friendly.
