What government system does Australia have?
Even though Australia has long since left the zone of British influence, we still appoint a governor general who “technically” reports to the monarch in Britain. When there is a federal election in Australia, first of all the prime minister reports to the GG who then dissolves parliament and installs a caretaker leader in the interim, after the elections are had the leader of the winning group approached the GG who the appoints the new government. The Prime Minister is the leader of the Lower house and for him to have any authority he needs the cooperation of the upper house or the senate. If he can not achieve this during his tenure as leader the GG has to dissolve parliament and call for a new election.
