What good things come from cutting down rainforest trees?

One obvious benefit is timber. The rainforest has many tree species (red cedar, for example) that yield valuable timber wood. There used to be many old red cedar trees that had grown to massive heights, but most of these were cut down for their highly valued wood that can be used to make beautiful furnishings. Another big benefit of cutting down rainforest is agricultural land. When the first European settlers arrived, the land around here was mostly rainforest. They needed vast amounts of clear land to grow crops. This area also has a very young, nutrient-rich, red soil called basalt that grows almost anything. Crops grow well in this soil. Also, the land was flat, which is necessary for most good crop growth. And of course rainforest areas get a lot of rainfall. So, a combination
