The use of the TRIM functions is very limited, in that they support only the use of character variables and data structures. Numeric fields, and zero-fill values are not supported. They do, however, provide some useful function for string handling. For example, in RPG IV, one line of code is all that’s needed to left-adjust a value within a field.
